First Nations leadership in British Columbia is calling for an independent investigation into why the RCMP decided to tase an 11-year-old special-needs child after he attacked a staff member in his care facility.

The boy was being cared for in a special facility where he had two caregivers who monitored him 24 hours a day when the RCMP was called in after the boy stabbed a 37-year-old staff member.

The Taser was deployed after the boy was found on a neighbouring property during his arrest on April 7.

The RCMP’s actions are being called into question as the detective who deployed the weapon only had a year-and-a-half experience on the job
