Waskaganish Pottery

The products range from dishes to art pieces, knick-knacks and sculptures with a culturally inspired flair. The ideas are limitless.

Our students very often ask, “When is the potter coming?” Benoit Daigle, a professional potter who is passionate about his work, comes from Montreal to share his expertise with teachers, students and community members. He visits classes from Pre-K to Secondary V. Not only is his expertise as a potter a benefit to our students, but his ability to connect with them through his humour and kindness has also made this a rich, learning experience.

One such visit in December Benoit brought with him a project that helped to kindle the Christmas spirit. Students were involved in creating Christmas trees and angels, from the very simple pieces made by our elementary students to the more detailed by our secondary students. Imagine, dozens and dozens of angels all waiting in a row to be fired in the kiln and taken home to be gifted to someone in the family, all handmade by our students. It was a wonderful inspiration from our Master Potter, God Our Creator from whom all good things come.
