stornoway-jobfairThe Stornoway mining company extends its gratitude and appreciation to the almost 1000 residents of northern Quebec who participated in their recruitment sessions over the past two weeks in Mistissini and Chibougamau. According to their administration, Stornoway interviewed a total of 991 applicants, some from as far away as La Gaspésie, with 254 interviews taking place in Mistissini and 697 in Chibougamau. The Stornoway team said they were inspired by the interest and quality of the people who applied in Mistissini and would also like to thank the CHRD team for their cooperation and assistance. They also wished to express their “utmost respect” for those who came for interviews in Chibougamau and had to wait outside in -30C weather for several hours, the final applicant not being interviewed until 2 am.

Stornoway’s project is set to be the first diamond mine in Quebec history and they understand the importance of the strong support of Eeyou Istchee, specifically the Cree Nation of Mistissini, as well as the people of Chibougamau-Chapais. Because of the necessary teamwork between the mining company and local residents, Stornoway says their hiring priorities will begin with those who are part of the Cree and the Chibougamau-Chapais communities.

Stornoway emphasizes the values of teamwork, respect, integrity, prosperity and passion and were pleased to say that all of the prospective employees interviewed in Mistissini and Chibougamau embodied an abundance of passion. Each resumé will be reviewed carefully and remain on file for future employment opportunities if not selected for this current round of hiring.
