Beleaguered Willie’s Place in Val-d’Or was looking for people and organizations with a heart. The Board of Compensation and CreeCo have stepped up to the plate to help the homeless in the city. Chair and President Jack Blacksmith confirmed that this year’s BOC/CreeCo Benefit Golf Tournament proceeds would go to Willie’s Place.

“Willie’s Place is something that is helpful for the people of the North in Val-d’Or,” said Blacksmith. “I think we have to help people who in those types of situations.”

After hearing Val-d’Or Native Friendship Centre Executive Director Edith Cloutier make a presentation to the BOC, Blacksmith said the Board felt they had to help.

“We’re hoping for a good turnout for the golf tournament and 100% of the profits will go to Willie’s Place,” said Blacksmith. “We can’t judge people who have ended up on the streets for many different reasons, but we can help them.”

The golf tournament is planned for the second week of June.
