Koostachin superhero unveiled

Late last year, DC comics artist Jeff Lemire announced that he was in the process of creating a new Cree superhero based on late Attawapiskat activist Shannen Koostachin.

Koostachin, who died in a car accident in 2010, was renowned for her tireless work to improve conditions for youth in her home community, and was nominated for an International Children’s Peace Prize.

Earlier this month, Lemire released an image of the new superhero online. Although the character’s name and superpowers have yet to be determined, Lemire is in the process of conducting a contest amongst students that will determine the heroine’s abilities.

Koostachin’s character will appear alongside Green Arrow, Supergirl, Hawkman and other famed DC heroes in Justice League United.
