The flu has moved into Eeyou Istchee
The Cree Health Board reports there are cases of H1N1 flu have been confirmed in Eeyou Istchee. The Quebec Health Ministry has confirmed there are two cases.
All residents are requested to wash their hands frequently. Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouths as much as possible. If you are feeling flu-like symptoms, go to the clinic as soon as possible. It is easier to treat in the early stages. One of the cases has already returned home.
James Bobbish of the Cree Health Board said we should not panic. “We need to take all precautions so this does not spread. We recommend that there are no large gatherings for the moment, especially between communities. Health Board personnel are developing a local plan of action if there are more confirmed cases. If you have flu-like symptoms you will be treated seriously,” said Bobbish. The CHB is ready to move on a moment’s notice Bobbish added.
“This is an unfortunate incident but we are aware of the situation,” said Mukash. He stated that the Grand Council and the CHB are working together to ensure all Crees are safe. “We are listening to the health officials and are telling people there is no reason to panic,” said Mukash.
“We have faced many difficulties and have gone through pandemics before and we are more ready to handle any increase in cases. We have canceled a special general assembly on health issues that was supposed have taken place June 30 to July 2. This was a safety precaution we decided on in order to ensure this flu did not spread as a result of our actions.”
