Update on Moses drug charges

Both Laura Moses, 51, and her daughter, Kim Moses, 23, have been formally charged with multiple charges of drug trafficking as a result of their arrest last spring.

Both mother and daughter are set to appear in court in Chisasibi on September 24. The women are being charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, methamphetamines, cocaine, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabis (marijuana).

Trafficking charges are automatic in Canada if the suspects are caught with a quantity of drugs that is considered to be more than for personal use.

The Nation approached the Cree Health Board for a response to Laura Moses’ charges as she has remained employed in an executive position since her arrest several months ago.

“We have to wait for the verdict, we do not have proof of this and it is a police matter. We cannot interfere with a police matter and we have to wait for due process. Depending on what the results are as of next week (court appearance), we will then take a position,” said Mabel Herodier, Executive Director for Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay
