At present there are no leads in the fire that took place on Tuesday, April 24, at Sam Gunner’s residence in the First Nation of Mistissini, but police suspect it might have been youth up to no good.

Emergency services received a call at 7:45pm and were notified about the burning van. When the firefighters arrived at the scene they were able to easily contain the blaze. The vehicle was severely damaged and there was some slight burn damage to the shed.

Police officer Robie Petawabano said, “We’re still figuring out what happened, the neighbours didn’t see anybody but there are reports of kids being in that area.”

The home-owners were away at the time of the incident and with the investigation in progress it remains unclear as to what might have caused the fire. Fortunately, emergency services arrived in time before any serious damage was done.
