The Honourable Robert Mainville put on the bench

A familiar face in many Crees communities will leaving the Cree camp and moving to newer hunting grounds. The Honourable Robert Mainville, a partner with Gowling Lafleur Henderson in Montreal, has been appointed a judge of the Federal Court.

Justice Mainville received a LL.L from the Université de Montréal in 1975 and a Masters of Law from McGill University in 2000 and was admitted to Quebec Bar in 1976. He was an associate at O’Reily Mainville (1989 to 1992), a partner at Mainville and Associates (1992 to 2002), and an associate and then partner at Gowling Lafleur Henderson (2002 to 2009). Justice Mainville has developed an expertise in Aboriginal law, industrial relations, commercial caw, civil law, constitutional and administrative law.

Mainville has been involved in the battle to recognize and honour Cree rights in the rule of law for many years. He will be missed.
